This is an archival giclee print on 18"x24", 300 lb. watercolor paper of El Dorado (1989). The original painting is acrylic on 24"x30" tinted Arches watercolor paper. After months of photography and digital editing, the prints are complete, hot off the press and looking remarkably like exact replicas of the original.
The original painting comes from a body of work I made in my final year of graduate school (2009) at Mills College in Oakland, CA. Each individual piece of work within that series was named after a Neil Young album. I found Young's 1989 EP "Eldorado" to be an appropriate title for this piece because of its associations with the idealism that accompanies the legendary lost city of gold. The bearded fellow in this painting possesses what I consider many strong elements, both literal and allegorical, that are iconic of an idealism personal to me.
